T-mobile is adding locations

As mentioned in Phonedog.com, T-mobile has partnered up with Target to offer their phones and other products at over 840 Target locations. The web site also mentioned that one of the problems faced with this partnership is that the employees at all other authorized T-mobile dealers are not properly trained. As a former employee of T-mobile I would have to agree but it’s not the fault of T-mobile or the dealer store. It’s the employees who choose not to care.

I was a T-mobile reprehensive sent to stores such as Wal-Mart and Radio shack to help sell T-mobile products. Wal-Mart doesn’t pay commission to their employees. This is a bad thing because the employees will not be customer oriented or motivated. They will only do the minimum requirements to perform their jobs to avoid being terminated. Not every commission associate is a. Radio shack employees are played commission but there is another hurdle for T-mobile at RadioShack. The employees are often frustrated when customers are only approved for a no contract service. Instead of doing their jobs and promoting the benefits of T-mobiles products and showing how much money the customer would save, they just move on to the next carrier. Many times RadioShack employees don’t even bother to mention T-mobile.

I have never sold a cell phone at Bust Buy but I know their culture. They don’t pay their employees commission but they do make sure their employees are up to par in the selling skills and knowledge. I’m not sure if this is a winning model in their cell phone department but it did work in their computer department.

Knowing the type of store that Target is I would assume that they won’t pay their employees commission and thus won’t have motivated or knowledgeable employees. Only Bust Buy has the Bust Buy culture of enthusiasm and achievements without getting paid commission and I have never seen that model work any ware else.
